Do you use social media ?
Are you safe & secure on the internet ? . . . . . .
Is your personal information safe?
...

What is internet?
The internet is a global network that provides information and facilitates communication over a series of connected networks.

In today's world, internet has become a huge part of our everyday lives which has revolutionized our way of living life immensely. It enables us to read news, enjoy entertainment, book tickets , online banking transactions, e-commerce, e-learning, to research, and helps us to carry our many other everyday tasks. People all over the world are connected through the internet. Any news travels through it as quickly as spreading of wildfire. This way we keep an update about the country and the world through this information.

Internet is pillar for the upcoming Digital Age,  so we have to adopt the technologies and cope up with the safety & security practices to survive in the digital world. Therefore, it goes without saying that

"Everything in this world has its pros and cons , but you have to become a PRO to handle the CONS."

So like everything else, internet too has downsides as well which includes data & privacy threats, identity theft, hacking, cyber bullying, frauds, spam, phishing, ransomware attacks, etc. But this doesn't mean that you should stop using the internet . It's useful and informative but at the same time it could be dangerous too. Thus, by inculcating the habit of using internet safety practices can you can save your data and privacy to be revealed to the world and be safe for the years to come.

1. Keep your privacy settings on.

2. Share your personal information only on trust able websites.

3. Don't reveal confidential details on social media.

4. Make sure you Internet connection is secure.

5. Practice safe browsing and don't open an insecure website.

6. Be careful while downloading anything because some programs or apps contain malware which may intend to steal your information.

7. Choose strong passwords and change them regularly.

8. Make online purchases only from secure websites.

9. Don't save your card on any website after transactions.
10. Make sure what you post, comment or share on social media .

11. Always think before click.

12. Keep your antivirus up to date.

13. Enable multi factor authentication on your important accounts which will work as a double safety.

14. Log out of sites when you are done with the task , as logging into a site creates a cookie which identifies you and if stolen, can compromise your account.

15. Don't enter personal information on websites using public networks like free WiFi in public places.

16. Use social media safely.

17. Do not open links or attachments in emails from unknown senders as it may contain malware.

The practice of defending computer systems, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks and data from malicious attacks is known as CYBER SECURITY.
It includes the  following:

Network Security: practice of securing computer network from intruders, whether targeted attackers or malware.

Application Security: focuses on keeping software and applications free of threats.

Information Security : it protects the integrity and privacy of data .
  CIA= Confidentiality | Integrity | Availability

Operational Security: it includes the processes and decisions for handling and protecting data assets.

Cloud Security : protection of data and information stored online via cloud platforms from theft or leakage.

Digital Footprint :one's unique set of traceable digital activities, actions and identity over the internet.

Types of cyber security thefts include:

1. Phishing : practice of sending fraudulent emails with the intention to steal your information.

2. Malware :unwanted software designed to gain unauthorized access or to cause damage to your computer system.

3. Ransomware : type of malicious software designed to extort money by blocking access to your data and files until ransom is paid.

4. Social Engineering : tactic which intends to steal information by making the victim click on a link or download any malicious program.

To sum up , I would like to say that using social media or anything on the internet has a risk but if we become cyber secure by just keeping in mind a few safety measures to keep our computer or mobile devices healthy, we can be safe and smart.

KEEP TRACK OF YOUR  DIGITAL FOOTPRINT

SECURE YOUR MOBILE DEVICE

BACKUP YOUR DATA

BEWARE OF SOCIAL ENGINEERING

BE PROACTIVE AND SECURE.

"Cyber security is a shared responsibility. More systems and devices we secure, the more secure we all are."

"I dream of a Digital India where Cyber Security becomes an integral part of our National Security."
